Duval County’s official packet contains a detail that can prevent a
defective filing: when a felony charge grew out of a misdemeanor arrest
or incident, or vice versa, both case numbers may need to appear on the
petition and proposed order. Duval also routes felony and misdemeanor
originals through different Clerk rooms while service copies go to the
Fourth Circuit State Attorney’s Seal and Expunge Division.

The Duval County process

  1. Search CORE and map every case number from the
    incident.     Duval’s CORE system displays case information and
    filed documents subject to access rules. Do not stop after finding only
    the felony or only the misdemeanor docket if both arose from the same
    event.
  2. Obtain the certified disposition and fingerprints.
    The Fourth Circuit State Attorney’s checklist calls for a certified
    final disposition and fingerprints. FDLE’s current instructions control
    acceptable fingerprint and payment details.
  3. Use the correct prosecutor route. For expunction,
    SAO4 directs the application to its Sealing/Expungement Department at
    311 West Monroe Street, Jacksonville. Sealing applications proceed to
    FDLE without the expunction-only prosecutor certification.
  4. Submit the FDLE packet and calendar the certificate
    deadline.     After a certificate issues, SAO4 instructs
    petitioners to prepare the petition, affidavit and order, ensure the
    requested remedy matches, notarize the affidavit and file before the
    certificate expires.
  5. File the Duval originals and serve copies. The
    Duval packet lists the courthouse at 501 West Adams Street and
    separately identifies misdemeanor Room 1223 and felony Room 2136. Copies
    of the petition, affidavit, order and certificate go to the State
    Attorney’s Seal and Expunge Division. Confirm room numbers and current
    e-filing requirements at submission.
  6. Confirm the separate fee stages. SAO4 says no
    charge is due to file the petition forms. The Clerk’s current fee
    schedule separately lists $59 for sealing or expungement of a record.
    Confirm whether and when that charge applies to the specific case before
    quoting a total.
  7. Track SAO review and court action. SAO4 reports an
    approximate four-week prosecutor processing period and says the
    petitioner will be notified when the judge signs an order or when a
    hearing is scheduled. That is an estimate, not a court deadline or
    guaranteed result.

Why Jacksonville needs its own guide

The dual-case-number instruction, separate Clerk rooms, current
e-filing rules and fee discrepancy make Duval operationally different
from other counties. This page should be maintained as a live procedure

What if my Jacksonville incident has both felony and misdemeanor
case numbers?

Duval’s official packet says that when one level originated from the
other arrest or incident, both case numbers need to be included on the
